Growing Interest, Growing Success

Ripley Rumble roars back with strong turnout, community support in Melfort

The second annual Ripley Rumble drew another strong turnout in Melfort on Friday evening, building on the success of last year’s inaugural event.

The Ripley Rumble brought PBR Canada pro bull riding to Melfort for the first time last May. After a successful debut, organizers knew making it an annual event was an easy decision.

Hosted by Ripley Ford, the non-profit event remained largely unchanged in its second year, with a few small adjustments that proved beneficial.

“In comparison, it was just as good or better…that’s what we’re hearing,” said Ripley Ford owner Mark Ripley. “After the first one, you learn a few things. The entertainment was second to none, as always. Some of the best top riders in Canada were here…lots of champions in the arena, so it was great from an entertainment standpoint.”

Ripley said community support continues to be a defining feature.

“The community, as always, really comes together,” he said. “From A to Z, the event went even better than expected. We were able to raise a lot of money for some great organizations, so it was an all-around success.”

The event followed a similar formula to its first year, with slight changes to the arena layout. New additions included pyrotechnics, giving fans an enhanced visual experience.

Organizers have already confirmed a third edition next year, as interest from both competitors and fans remains high.

“One of the comments we hear is how professional the event is and how much care goes into it,” Ripley said. “The riders really feel valued when they come here. To attract the best, you have to run a strong event, and they’re eager to come back.”

He added the event benefits everyone involved.

“It’s good for the community, good for us and good for the riders — everybody wins,” Ripley said. “As long as the interest remains, we can give money back and keep everybody safe doing it; it’s a no-brainer to continue.”

Organizers expect the final fundraising total to fall between $60,000 and $100,000. Proceeds will support the Maude Burke Playground project and the Melfort Kinsmen’s outdoor rink initiative.
