Fourth annual MMIWG walk held in Melfort
Under clear skies and warm spring weather, people gathered in Melfort on Friday for the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Walk. It’s a day marked by reflection, community, and remembrance.
The Marguerite Riel Centre hosted the fourth annual event at Memorial Gardens.
Spokesperson Kevin Arcand told northeastNOW he was thrilled with the participation in this year’s event.
The day began with a barbecue, with all proceeds going to the Marguerite Riel Centre’s youth programming. From there, the tone shifted to a pipe ceremony led by Elder Maurice Wolfe and Doug Machiskinic.
