Spring Clean Up Week in Melfort starts Monday

Proof of Melfort residency, like a utility bill or your driver’s license, must be presented to the landfill scale attendant for fees to be waived. Cipywnyk said lines next week may be longer than normal, so she asked residents to be patient while heading to the landfill during that time.

“Tipping fees for tires, Dutch Elm trees, hazardous wastes, commercial building or demolition wastes will not be waived during the week as these materials require special handling.”

Meanwhile, yard waste will also be picked up on your regular garbage day by Greenland Waste.

“Yard refuse must be placed in clear plastic bags and put on the curb with the bin,” Cipywnyk explained. “Tree branches will only be picked up if they are in a neat bundle and cut to four feet or less in length.”

Cipywnyk said City crews will also be doing a city-wide litter picking campaign during the week to clean up green spaces before mowing starts.

The Yard Waste Drop Off site [formerly known as the Compost Site] on Central Ave. will open starting May 15. The site will be open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Mondays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., excluding statutory holidays.

Both that site and the landfill will be closed on Monday for the Victoria Day holiday.
