Nipawin woman charged with assault of police officer

May 20, 2026 | 3:06 PM

A woman from Sandy Bay has been charged and arrested following her assault of a police officer.

Around 8:30 a.m. on May 15, Nipawin RCMP received a report of a theft in Choiceland after someone left a store with merchandise that wasn’t paid for, before driving off in an SUV.

Police responded and later located the vehicle in the White Fox area and tried to initiate a traffic stop. The SUV, however, did not pull over and fled from RCMP at a high rate of speed.

Shortly after, police located the vehicle on patrol, approaching the Town of Nipawin on Highway 35, west of the bridge.

Police once again attempted a traffic stop, disabling the SUV when it drove into the parked RCMP vehicle in the westbound lane of the highway. All three occupants of the SUV were arrested after colliding with the passenger side of the police vehicle.

No physical injuries were reported by either the occupants of the SUV or the police officer involved in the collision.

Following investigation, 30-year-old Alyssa Natewayes has been charged with one count of assault of a peace officer, evading an officer, dangerous driving and failing to comply with a release order.

Natewayes was also arrested on an outstanding warrant from the Prince Albert Police Service.

The other two people in the suspect’s vehicle have been released from police custody, one without charge and one with a charge pending.

No court information has been finalized yet for the one with a charge, which was related to the initial theft at the business in Choiceland.

Natewayes, meanwhile, has already appeared in Melfort Provincial Court (May 19), with her next court date scheduled for May 25.
