Work Being Done

Palace entrance construction, environmental sampling not expected to cause traffic delays in Melfort

Jul 8, 2026 | 9:56 AM

Some construction and environmental sampling work is occurring in Melfort this week on the blocks of Burrows Ave. W and Macleod Ave. W.

The Northern Lights Palace is having its south entrance updated (Macleod Ave. W); the city began removing the rubberized surface on Tuesday afternoon.

During the update, the Palace itself won’t be wheelchair accessible, as the south entrance is the only accessible entrance to the building.

The work is expected to be completed Wednesday afternoon with temporary gravel. The concrete crew will then begin work next week to fully restore the entrance.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” said the City in a Facebook post. “Thank you for your patience and understanding while we complete these improvements.”

Meanwhile, on Burrows Ave W, there will be environmental sampling work continuing to take place Wednesday near 217.

The property owner is having a consultant conduct groundwater and soil vapour sampling at multiple existing monitoring wells nearby.

During the work, which is expected to conclude today after beginning on Monday, temporary traffic control measures will be in place around the sampling locations, while portions of the parking lane on the road will likely be temporarily used by work vehicles.

Delineators, caution tape, and flashing amber lights will be used to identify the work areas and help ensure public safety; however, no road closures are anticipated, and access to nearby properties will remain.

“We appreciate your patience and cooperation while this work is being completed,” the City added.
