Town of Tisdale announces intention to build new town office

Jul 15, 2026 | 2:56 PM

The Town of Tisdale has confirmed they will be building a new town office.

The announcement was made at this week’s council meeting.

The community has been without a permanent headquarters since staff were forced to move in 2024 due to high mould levels. The building was demolished the following year

“Council recognized the need to establish a permanent home for the town office,” Chief Administrative Officer Lovely Magnaye said. “Following the demolition of the previous town office and civic centre, administrative services have been operating from temporary accommodations at the RECplex.”

Staff had adapted well since their unplanned move to the RECplex, according to Magnaye, but the space presents limitations in terms of office layout, meeting space, privacy, accessibility, and long-term operational efficiency.

“These challenges have reinforced council’s recognition of the need for a permanent town office that is designed to meet the needs of the community and municipal operations for many years to come,” Magnaye said.

She added that the arrangement has allowed the town to conduct business and serve residents, but it was never meant to be a long-term solution.

“A permanent town office will provide a purpose-built, accessible, and efficient facility that better serves residents, supports municipal operations, accommodates future growth, and protects the Town’s investment in its public infrastructure.”

While the decision has been made to build a new town office, Magnaye said council has not decided on the type, size, layout, or final design on the build.

“At the last council meeting, administration was directed to prepare information to support a conceptual design discussion. This work will help council explore potential options, assess community and operational needs, and consider costs before any decisions are made.”

Only two decisions have been made thus far; that a new town office will be built, and that the build will take place on the site of the former town office.

Magnaye said the aim is to begin construction in the spring of 2027, and the timing for tendering of the project will depend on the completion of the planning and design process, budget approvals, and other project requirements.
