Melfort Parade kicks off fair weekend

Jul 17, 2026 | 5:03 PM

The community lined the sidewalks, driveways and lawns late Friday morning as vehicles galore drove the streets of Melfort.

Trucks, tractors, quads, boats, horses, trailers, floats, dirt bikes and more paraded throughout the city to officially kick off the exhibition weekend. It travelled down Bemister Ave. E., Brunswick St., Park Ave., Main St., and Burrows Ave. E., before ending at the Northern Lights Palace parking lot.

The annual Melfort parade, which began around 11 a.m., and was organized by the Melfort Trade Alliance Chamber of Commerce, leads into a weekend of midway rides, chuckwagons, fireworks, food, and other events on the exhibition grounds that will run through to Sunday.

The theme of the parade this year revolved around a special anniversary, as the Melfort Legion celebrated its 100th birthday.

Each night ends with a concert. On the grandstand on Friday is a John Cougar Mellencamp Tribute Band, followed by Iron Orr performing in the Beer Gardens until 1 a.m.

On Saturday, the fair schedule includes a tractor pull and motocross competition, and Jake Vaadeland & the Sturgeon River Boys will take to the grandstand at 8:30 p.m.

The fireworks display is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. Saturday night, weather permitting.
