Fraudsters targeting heavy truck suppliers across Saskatchewan
Saskatchewan RCMP are warning heavy-duty trucking and transportation businesses after fraudsters targeted suppliers in several communities, including Battleford, Hudson Bay, Cudworth and Onion Lake.
The RCMP issued the warning Wednesday after 12 businesses were impacted. Other affected communities include Weyburn, Kindersley, Biggar, Assiniboia, White Butte and Moosomin.
Officers began investigating in March after receiving multiple complaints from automotive suppliers, tire shops, fuel distributors and other businesses connected to the transportation sector.
According to police, the businesses received phone orders for items such as tires, engine oil or trailer parts. The callers provided credit card information over the phone, and the transactions initially appeared approved or pending. The products were then shipped by courier, but after the shipment left, the credit card was declined and no payment was received.
