Another two points up for grabs

Mustangs host Red Wings for first weekday contest of the season

Oct 7, 2026 | 3:56 PM

The Melfort Mustangs will look to grab their fourth straight victory tonight when they host the Weyburn Red Wings.

Melfort is coming off a weekend sweep over the Warman Wolverines, in which they needed nine goals over two games to collect a pair of shootout wins.

Weyburn, meanwhile, is coming off a nine-goal effort over the Yorkton Terriers, as they’ve propelled themselves to the league’s highest-scoring offence.

“Scoring nine goals in a weekend typically makes the game a little easier and less tight. The scores ended up being quite tight, but if you look at our weekend before that, when we only allowed two, now we’re just trying to combine those two facets of the game. Obviously, we probably like to do so in regulation as well, but we’ll take the two points any way we can get them,” said Mustangs defenceman Rhett Vedress.

“When we look at their team strengths, they obviously have an extremely high work ethic. It’s gonna be two hard-working teams going at each other tonight, and we’re gonna do our best to shut down their high-flying offence. We also want to execute well and just be able to capitalize on our offensive chances when we get them.”

Tonight’s matchup is the first weekday contest for the Stangs this season, and marks the first of four meetings with the Red Wings this year.

Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. from the Northern Lights Palace, with the pregame show beginning at 7:15 p.m. on 105CJVR and CJVR.com
