NCHCF SIlver Spectacular Gala raising money for ophthalmology equipment

The North Central Health Care Foundation (NCHCF) has revealed more details on their 25th anniversary Silver Spectacular Gala, and what it will benefit.

The event dubbed “A Night of Stars & Cirque” is being held Friday, Nov. 20 at the Kerry Vickar Centre. It serves as both an extravaganza and a major fundraiser for the foundation.

This year’s gala, featuring dancing by local professionals, various community members, and healthcare workers, is raising funds to equip a pair of operating rooms at Melfort Union Hospital with specialized ophthalmology equipment.

According to the foundation, the new equipment would double the surgical capacity, which would potentially double the number of patients receiving cataract surgery. There is currently a one-year waitlist for cataract surgery.

Having the equipment in Melfort would also help patients in rural and northeast Saskatchewan receive care closer to home.

The foundation stated in a social media post that Melfort Hospital has been a hub for ophthalmology care in our region, and with the aging population, the need for cataract care is growing.

“This is about more than equipment,” the NCHCF stated. “It’s about restoring vision, reducing wait times, and helping our families, friends, and neighbours receive the care they deserve, right here at home.”

Last year’s inaugural gala raised more than $100,000 for new pediatric care and trauma care resources.

The foundation is also currently highlighting past purchases in Melfort that have helped patients across northeast Saskatchewan through their “25 Days of Impact” awareness campaign on their social media pages.
