Watson facility upgrades

“Match the Cash” fundraiser looking to bring in 25k for Centennial Lodge improvements

Oct 21, 2026 | 4:26 PM

The Quill Plains Health Care Foundation (QPHCF) is raising funds for upgrades to Centennial Lodge in Watson.

Three donors have challenged the foundation to meet their $25,000 donation for immediate updates to the lodge by Nov.15, and the QPHCF has accepted that challenge.

“We took it upon ourselves and put out the notice, and we certainly hope that we will get all of the $25,000, and more,” foundation chair Norma Weber said.

The foundation is looking at improving several areas of the current facility, including the establishment of a multi-use room to bring physiotherapy for both residents of Centennial Lodge and citizens of Watson and area. Other upgrades include creating two new visiting rooms so residents can be with friends and family, freshening up the space with new paint, decor, and a new sounds system, and updates to the staff room.

“Just to make the facility better and more comfortable and pleasant for our present residents, and for our staff also,” explained Weber.

The community of Watson has had long-term care for almost 60 years, Weber said, and the current Centennial Lodge is beginning to show its age. When the provincial government was approached about what could be done about the condition of the facility, they decided they needed a new long-term care building. The Centennial Lodge is a 53-bed facility, Weber said, and the new building will feature 60 long-term beds. Weber said there’s no exact date of the new build, which will take place just north of Centennial Lodge, and the foundation continues to move forward with fundraising and making sure everything is in place.

“We’re keeping our present facility well-furnished, especially with things that we can move over to the new facility,” Weber said.

To donate to the “Match the Cash” fundraiser, you can stop by the Town of Watson office, send a cheque to Box 277, Watson, SK, S0K 4V0, or visit the foundation’s website.
