Man charged after striking RCMP vehicle in Carrot River

Oct 26, 2026 | 2:01 PM

A 44-year-old man from Arborfield is facing charges after hitting an occupied police vehicle.

Carrot River RCMP spotted a truck speeding on Highway 23 towards Carrot River last Thursday afternoon.

The truck drove into Carrot River and passed through a crosswalk where children were present, and RCMP attempted to initiate a traffic stop.

The truck initially stopped for police before reversing into the police vehicle. The driver then turned the truck around and started walking away on foot.

The driver became agitated when approached by officers, and a conducted energy weapon was used after the man resisted arrest and tried to escape police custody.

RCMP determined the man was impaired, and he was assessed by medical personnel as a precaution before being released back into police custody.

No one was injured in the incident.

The suspect faces multiple charges, including assault on a police officer with a weapon causing bodily harm, impaired driving, and resisting a police officer.

He made his first court appearance on Monday.
