Speed limit change on Melfort-area highway

Oct 29, 2026 | 11:53 AM

Motorists in the Melfort area should be aware of a significant speed limit change that could affect your travels.

In case you haven’t already noticed, the speed limit on Highway 41A, west of the city, has recently changed.

“The Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways reduced the posted speed limit of Highway 41A near Melfort to 80 km/h from the previous 100 km/h in mid-October to improve safety,” the Ministry of Highways stated in response to an interview request from northeastNOW.

According to the Ministry, the change was made due to concerns from surrounding municipalities.

“The reduction was after the RM of Flett’s Springs, RM of Star City, and City of Melfort requested last year to meet the ministry to discuss highway safety,” the Ministry’s statement read.

Highway 41A is located west of Melfort, and connects Highways 3 and 41. Each end of 41A has a stop sign where motorists must stop before proceeding to Highway 3 or 41. Motorists along 3 and 41 have the right of way.

The Ministry said Highway 41A is used by vehicles and semis to go around Melfort, and to access nearby agricultural facilities and the city’s landfill.

“Reducing the speed [limit] improves safety by giving drivers more time to react,” stated the Ministry.
