NEOSS hosts Domestic Violence Awareness Walk in Melfort

Nov 5, 2026 | 2:54 PM

North East Outreach and Support Services (NEOSS) hosted its second annual Domestic Violence Awareness Walk in downtown Melfort Thursday afternoon.

Braving the cold wind, dozens of people came out to take part in the walk.

Outreach worker Tracey Zwozdesky said the event coincides with November being Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Canada.

“It affects our communities in northeast Saskatchewan and all of Saskatchewan and all of Canada,” Zwozdesky said. “We just think it’s a really important thing to get the awareness out there and let people know that it exists and that there is help available.”

NEOSS in Nipawin held their fifth annual Domestic Violence Awareness Walk Thursday morning.

Zwosdesky said making people aware that there are options available for those in a domestic violence situation is crucial.

“Sometimes they don’t know that there is a way out or that there [are] people to help them create safe plans and safe exit plans from the situation that they could be living in.”

NEOSS will be issuing updates and information regarding domestic violence throughout the month of November on their social media pages. That includes their main page and the NEOSS Nipawin First.

“We’ll have posts about domestic violence through the month of November,” explained Zwozdesky. “We’re also going to be trying to get in to talk to some people about domestic violence.”

NEOSS will also be in Cumberland House in November and will be facilitating ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) in Prince Albert.
