Canada splits on Day 3, tied atop the standings with 3 and 1 record

The Canadian Women’s 3×3 Basketball Team is tied atop the round-robin standings following the conclusion of Day 3.

After suffering their first loss of the Olympics early Thursday morning to Team Germany (19-15), the Canadians responded later in the day against host France with a 13-9 victory.

The Day 3 split gives them a 3 and 1 record with three pool play games remaining, two of which go Friday.

Canada will see their North American rival when they battle against Team USA, just a couple of hours before they finish the day against Team Spain.

The Americans are at the bottom of the standings with a 1 and 3 record, while the Spanish are just a win behind the Canadians, sitting at 2 and 1.

In the Canuck’s second contest of Day 3, it was Humboldt native Paige Crozon who came up clutch as she added a one-point contested layup late in the game, on which she was fouled on.

Because Canada was in the bonus at the time, it gave Crozon two shots at the line, and she nailed both to turn a three-point lead into a six-point cushion, with just 32 seconds left on the clock.

Just seven seconds later she even blocked a two-point attempt from the French, truly icing the game at the 25-second mark.

Crozon had a team-high tying four points in the victory, as the Canadians continued to dominate the defensive end, forcing eight turnovers and limiting France to 1 of 10 from deep and 39 per cent from inside.

The ladies donning the Maple Leaf will finish their round-robin on Saturday morning against Azerbaijan, before the quarterfinals begin later in the day.
