On the road again

Mustangs head to La Ronge looking for sixth straight

Nov 26, 2024 | 2:23 PM

The Melfort Mustangs have won their last five games in a row heading into La Ronge on Tuesday night.

Melfort just returned home from Kindersley, late Sunday afternoon due to inclement weather, and are now back on the road this afternoon to take on the Ice Wolves.

The two teams have played just once this year, with the Mustangs taking the season opener at the Mel Hegland Uniplex, 3-2 in overtime, Sept. 20.

In their last five wins, the Stangs have won all of them by just a combined six goals, with their last contest being their only multi-goal victory.

Heading to a tough rink in La Ronge, and playing an Ice Wolves team that is currently tied for fifth in the league’s standings, another close match is once again very expected for the Blue and Green.

“La Ronge is playing good right now and especially at their barn, it’s always a tough place to play,” said Mustangs’ assistant coach Tye Scherger.

“We have to go in there with a mentality that we have to hunt, be heavy on the forecheck, be hard in our D-zone, and just bear down. Tonight’s going to be a big one for us.”

Puck drop between league-best Melfort (16 and 4) and the Ice Wolves (12-11-1) is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

The pregame show will start at 7:15 p.m. on 105CJVR and CJVR.com, as Ben Tompkins has the call.
