Season Series Sweep

Mustangs push streak to eight with second straight dominant victory

Dec 5, 2024 | 11:16 AM

The Melfort Mustangs continue to win and their streak of dominance doesn’t seem to be ending anytime soon.

Melfort just picked up their eighth victory in a row, completing the season series sweep over the Estevan Bruins in the process.

A 5-1 win, the Mustangs have now outscored their opponents 13-2 in their last two games.

“I think this locker room is one of the tightest groups I’ve ever been a part of, so that’s a big help, and our practices have also been going well, so I think that’s a big part of it too,” said Stangs’ forward Nolan Patterson.

“It feels really good to sweep them, we obviously beat them in the playoffs last year too, which was fun, so now beating them in the season series this year too is unbelievable.”

The Blue and Green led 3-0 after the opening period and never looked back, as forward Reilley Kotai added to his impressive past week.

The reigning player of the week had another three points on the night (two goals and an assist), as he nows has nine points (five goals and four assists) in his last two games.

“It feels like he can’t be held off the scoresheet right now, he practices exactly how he plays and just always works his butt off, so it honestly isn’t too surprising how good he’s playing right now,” Patterson added.

Melfort’s next game will be on Friday when they welcome the La Ronge Ice Wolves to town for the first time this season.

The Mustangs have won the prior two matchups over the Ice Wolves, both of which came in La Ronge in one-goal games.

“If we keep working hard in practice and take care of our bodies off the ice, then hopefully this win streak should continue,” concluded Patterson.
