Mel-Bex business awards gala in Melfort slated for March

A celebration of local businesses will return to Melfort in a couple of months.

The Melfort Trade Alliance Chamber of Commerce (MTACC) will host the Mel-Bex Awards Gala at the Kerry Vickar Centre March 22.

Chamber President Lloyd Muntain told northeastNOW there will be nine different categories for local businesses and individuals. They include Business of the Year (16 employees and over), Business of the Year (15 and under), two Community Involvement awards, Customer Service, Property Appearance, Heritage Award, and the Citizen and Junior Citizen of the Year.

The Mel-Bex Awards Gala was held last year for the first time in six years, and Muntain said the event was a huge success.

“It was overwhelming,” said Muntain. “The response that we got back was very, very heartwarming.”

Last year’s gala saw the awards handed out, plus a short panel discussion on the successes and challenges local businesses face. Comedian Kelly Taylor closed out the evening with his set about growing up in Saskatchewan and life on the road.

Muntain said if the event continues to become bigger and better, the chamber will need to move it to the Kerry Vickar Centre gymnasium to accommodate more attendees. He added the interest is a big pat on the back to the Board of Directors.

The nomination deadline for the awards is Feb. 28. Forms are available by emailing trademelfort@melfort.ca, or at Nutter’s Everyday Naturals or TJ’s Pizza.
