Mustangs score six unanswered to mount multi-goal comeback over Terriers
The Melfort Mustangs had one of their strongest finishes of the season on Friday night as they took down the Yorkton Terriers for the second time in the last week.
Melfort’s first trip to Yorkton this season didn’t look like it was going to plan as halfway through the game, the Terriers led 3-1. The Mustangs responded in a big way in the last 30 minutes, however, as they scored six straight en route to a 7-3 victory.
“Our start wasn’t good to see, we lacked in the D zone. Our compete level, finishing on pucks, and battles weren’t good either. We had a bit of a chat in the first intermission and the response and reset was great. It’s unreal to see when you’re down three to one and then you finish seven to three. These boys are awesome to coach because they just want to work every day,” said assistant coach Tye Scherger.
“The difference in the second half was our Mustang identity, when we play gritty, win battles, and are hard in the D-zone, we create time and space all over the ice. When we are like that, no one can touch us, and once we got back to our game it showed.”
