Hawks make final trek to La Ronge Tuesday
The Nipawin Hawks will travel to La Ronge for the final time this Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) regular season Tuesday.
The Hawks look to build off a positive week that included a shootout loss to Melfort and a win over Flin Flon.
The lone game in the SJHL on the schedule, Nipawin and La Ronge will meet for the seventh time this season, the Ice Wolves have six wins, the Hawks have the last one at the Mel Hegland Uniplex on Dec. 13. Head Coach Tad Kozun said despite the departure of Conor Ryan and Aiden Bruce to teams in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) this week his teams’ mindset hasn’t changed.
“It’s been a wild couple days with two players leaving, but that doesn’t change the process for us, it’s simply next man up mentality,” he said after the team’s game day meeting. “We are short staffed now with just 20 players, but let’s see what these guys can do with their opportunities over the final dozen games starting tonight in a tough barn.”
