Hawks one shot shy in shutout loss to Weyburn
The Weyburn Red Wings were just one shot better than the Hawks Friday night at the Centennial Arena in Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) action.
Nipawin fell 1-0 to the Red Wings with Josh Karman’s first period goal standing up as the game winning tally. Nipawin Assistant Derek Hutton said his group played a great game but couldn’t buy a bounce.
“I thought it was a good performance top to bottom for us,” he said after the game. “We were skating with them on the defensive side, we had our opportunities, we just couldn’t it in the back of the net.”
The Hawks fired 21 shots on Angelo Zol, the Weyburn netminder now has four shutouts on the season. Gage Roberts was equally as steady also making 21 stops with just Karman beating the 18-year-old Fort McMurray, Alta. product at the side of the net. Hutton added that the Hawks are gaining valuable experience in games against the SJHL’s top clubs.
