Blazers sweep Trojans in first round after Game 3 overtime win

The Tisdale Trojans were eliminated from the playoffs on Friday night after falling 4-3 in overtime in Game 3 to the Saskatoon Blazers on the road.

The loss marks the end of the road for Tisdale as they were swept 3-0 in their best of five series with Saskatoon.

In Game 3, Pryce Thiessen found the back of the net first, putting the Trojans out in front early in the opening frame.

It remained that way until the second when the Blazers answered back with a goal of their own, courtesy of Will Degagne. Saskatoon quickly took the lead less than two minutes later on the powerplay, also coming off the stick of Degagne.

The Trojans didn’t back down though and rose to the challenge with Carter Corbett scoring the equalizer at the midway mark of the period, making it 2-2.

After Kash Ringdal put the Blazers back out in front with 5:09 to play, Tisdale’s Sean Shiels found the back of the net on the man advantage with 19 seconds left to make it three all heading into the third.

Following a scoreless final frame, the game went to overtime to decide a winner. There, it was Tyson Medernach who played the role of the hero for Saskatoon, scoring the game and series winner for the Blazers with a final score of 4-3.

Wyatt Fleishhacker managed 39 saves for the Trojans in the season-ending loss, while Madex Kabrud needed 38 stops to collect the win for Saskatoon.

With the first round victory, Saskatoon advance to the second round where they will face the winner of Estevan and Moose Jaw.

Meanwhile for Tisdale, this is the second consecutive year that the Trojans were eliminated from the playoffs by the Blazers after falling in three straight games in the second round last season.
