Hawks hand out hardware

The Nipawin Hawks held their awards banquet on Saturday concluding their season as the team won’t be in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) playoffs.

The biggest winner of the evening was second-year centreman Eric Hoiness. The Saskatoon product won the most valuable player, third star of the season, the iron man award for playing all 56 games this year and was the team’s lead scorer with 13 goals and 43 points.

Goaltender Gage Roberts was the team’s first star of the season collecting the most postgame honours this year. The 18-year-old Fort McMurray, Alta. product also won the Clark J. Froelich Community Service Award for his off-ice efforts in the town.

Captain Finley Radloff was awarded the second star.

Rookie winner from Medicine Hat, Alta. Noah Derouin was named the club’s unsung hero, the Love of the Game Award in Memory of ‘Goobs’ went to another Alberta rookie, Jack Mitchell.

Mason Karakochuk won the fan favourite award; the Rookie of the Year was Prince Albert’s 17-year-old Will Whitter.

Top forward was Carter Anderson. The Calgary resident scored 23 goals to lead the team this season. Three-year Hawks’ rearguard Vito Biondo III was named the top defenceman.
