City crews busy after heavy rain in Melfort

Aug 8, 2025 | 5:12 PM

City of Melfort crews will be out checking roads and catch basins over the next couple of days.

A rainfall warning is in effect and upwards of 75 mm could fall in the northeast by the time the system leaves early Sunday.

Director of Public Works Kalyna Cipywnyk told northeastNOW that anyone with concerns about water drainage or water backup in roadways should call City Hall to let them know.

“We can direct the call and otherwise take down their information and the location and what is happening and pass that along to our public works crew, who will try to attend to the situation as soon as they can,” Cipywnyk said.

She said crews were out as soon as the precipitation began Friday afternoon preparing for the intense rain.

Residents that see grates that are covered with leaves and other debris can clear that off if they can do so safely. Otherwise, Cipywnyk recommends contacting the City of Melfort so public works crews can take care of the issue.

“Your best bet is to give City Hall a call because we have the tools to properly clear out a catch basin,” she said.

Cipywnyk thanked residents for their patience as crews attempt to ensure roads are clear of water.

“We just want everyone to stay safe out there.”
