Mustangs back in Kindersley for first-round rematch

Oct 24, 2025 | 3:21 PM

For the final time this season, the Melfort Mustangs are seeing one of their playoff opponents from last season for the first time.

Melfort has already played the Weyburn Red Wings and Yorkton Terriers, but is now in Kindersley for the weekend for a pair of games against the Klippers.

These two teams faced off in the first round of the postseason last year, which the Mustangs won 4-1.

“We’re ready to get back at it here, and hopefully grab a few wins, get back to consistent hockey and keep moving forward with the process… definitely need to bounce back here from our first overnighter, so gotta put some effort in and hopefully come away with four points,” said forward Tristin Ziola.

“We beat them pretty well last year, so you never know what could happen out there, and it’ll be a good two games here… the biggest thing for us is consistency and working on that through each period. We’ve been starting slow, and we’re coming out in the second, not at full speed, and that affects us, so just getting some more flow with our lines, and hopefully get some chemistry here.”

The Stangs’ first overnighter of the season, just two weekends ago, didn’t go well, as they lost to both the Red Wings and the Estevan Bruins.

Things became better for this group last weekend, however, as they earned a weekend split against the Terriers, and were even arguably the better team in the loss.

There are still things to work on on both sides of the puck, as after allowing 14 goals in three games, the Blue and Green proceeded to get shut out in the following game.

“Every inch of the ice we’re focusing on, but we’ve got to be good defensively, we always stick to that first, and goals will come. Just sticking to the process and working on that, and it’ll eventually come, so always be defensive, and it’ll go a long way,” Ziola added.

“Just stick to the process, play good defensive hockey, and just get that chemistry between our lines, put a few pucks in and bury our chances here.”

Puck drops Friday and Saturday between the Mustangs and the Klippers are each set for 7:30 p.m.
