Mustangs suffer similar fate against rival Bombers

Nov 6, 2025 | 1:27 AM

For the second time in two meetings this season, the Melfort Mustangs have fallen at the hands of the Flin Flon Bombers.

After a Sept. 27 matchup in Flin Flon, which saw the Mustangs lose 2-1 in a shootout, the Bombers were in Melfort on Wednesday and once again beat the Stangs 2-1, this time in regulation.

Following a scoreless first period, it was the Blue and Green who got on the board first as forward Owen Nelson buried his fourth of the season just 14 seconds into the middle frame.

Unfortunately, that would be all the scoring for the Mustangs on the evening, as Flin Flon’s Maverick Deslisle scored his sixth of the year to tie it, just three minutes later, before Landon Alexander added his fourth of the campaign, with five minutes to go in the second period, to take the lead for the Bombers.

That goal would stand up as the game winner, as neither team could find the back of the net in the final stanza.

The two clubs were a combined 0 for 9 on the power play, with Melfort failing to capitalize on a game-high five man-advantages.

Stangs’ netminder Madden Mulawka made 32 saves in the loss, while Flin Flon goaltender Devin Peck grabbed the win, making 26 stops.

Each organization will now have a nine-day break before playing next, as the Blue and Green will visit the Nipawin Hawks on Nov. 14, with the Bombers simultaneously playing host to the Humboldt Broncos.

Flin Flon currently holds a 10-6-0-1 record, good for fifth in league standings, while Melfort currently sits outside the playoff picture in ninth place with a record of 7-6-0-2.
