Flin Flon Bombers fundraising for new bus

Nov 25, 2025 | 4:53 PM

After 19 years on the road, the Flin Flon Bombers are looking to replace the bus that currently takes the team around Saskatchewan.

Unlike most teams in the SJHL, the Bombers own their bus. Head Coach and General Manager Mike Reagan said that without buying the bus, the team might not be around anymore.

“It’s one of those things that when you’re on the road as much as we are, those travel expenses add up. If we were to charter a bus, it’d be roughly $100,000 a year. So when you take a look at the long term picture, it’s a wise decision for us. I can honestly say that when we purchased the bus that we currently own, if we didn’t have it, I don’t know if the Bombers would be around in Flin Flon right now. So it’s definitely a steep price, the old girl has been good to us, but she’s on her last leg.”

In total, the Bombers need to raise $300,000 to replace the bus they currently have, but a lot of that is going to be covered thanks to corporate sponsorship around the Flin Flon community. A GoFundMe has been set up asking fans and alumni of the team to help chip in with a total of $50,000 to get the Bombers the rest of the way to a new set of wheels.

Even during a busy season where the Bombers are in a fight for the top spot in the SJHL, the fundraiser has given Reagan a chance to reconnect with some of his former players.

“A lot of our former players have already donated on the GoFundMe, which is great to see. I mean, those guys know better than anybody how important the bus is, and alumni has been huge so far. So, we’re hoping that, not just Bomber alumni, but fans of the team and former Flin Floners, it seems like everywhere you go you run into someone from Flin Flon, so we have quite the reach out there. We’re just looking for anybody that wants to help out in any way, and it’s been a great response so far.”

The GoFundMe is already over $19,000 raised at the time this article was written.

As for why they chose to start fundraising for a new bus, it wasn’t as much a choice as it was a necessity. With the Bombers having one of the most intense travel schedules in the league, their closest opponent being a 324 km drive to La Ronge, the bus has seen a lot of miles over the last decade and is starting to show its age.

“We’ve got some sponsorship, the corporate community in Flin Flon has been great to us and it’s helping out. But we’re in a situation where we’re putting Band-Aids on our current bus and it’s just a matter of time that you end up stranded on the side of the road or maybe you’re having to look at renting a bus to finish out the year. We’ve currently looked at two buses, but we’re hoping that we can get something by the new year,” Reagan said.
