Mustangs set for home-and-home meeting with Millionaires

Dec 5, 2025 | 2:38 PM

The Melfort Mustangs will play a home-and-home set with the Melville Millionaires this weekend, beginning Friday at the Northern Lights Palace.

The contest will wrap up a five-game homestand for Melfort, in which they most recently snapped a four-game losing skid.

“As a group, our goal every weekend is to obviously win, and points come from that. We had a good week here of practices leading up to this weekend, so we’re looking forward to tomorrow and Saturday… we kind of had a little bit of a slump there, and I feel like we’re kind of on the rise out of that. Still not where we want to be, but we’re working towards that goal, and we’re going to get there,” said forward Danton Cox.

“We just gotta stay consistent in how we play and work hard every shift. It’s just about the buy-in factor, and playing for each other, so it’ll just keep coming.”

Part of said buy-in factor will come from some of the newer players on the team, as the Mustangs overhauled their group a little bit early last week.

That fact should play a big part this weekend, as the Stangs clash with a notoriously hard-working team that sits just one place ahead of them in the league standings.

“The group looks really good right now, we’re really happy with everybody, and everyone’s kind of finding their groove and finding their spot on the team and in the lineup. It obviously started to show up last weekend, grabbing three of four points, so hopefully, we can keep getting better,” Cox added.

“Melville, especially in previous years, has always been a really hard-working team, so we’re going to look into that, and just try and outwork them and play our game.”

Friday’s contest, the first meeting of the season between the Blue and Green and the Mills, will begin with a 7:30 p.m. puck drop.
