Driver who became stuck in snow rescued by Nipawin Fire Department

Dec 22, 2025 | 10:50 AM

The Nipawin Fire Department (NFD) responded to a concerning call from the RM of Torch River Sunday morning.

They were dispatched to a motorist who was stuck on an unknown road.

In a social media post, the department said the young man handed the situation very well.

They said he first phoned his mom and dad and then remained in his vehicle.

“NEVER leave your automobile during extreme cold temperatures,” the department’s post read. “Hunker down and stay warm. Responders will find you.”

This is especially true during this cold snap, as it was –32 C when the call came in.

The NFD said the young man then called 9-1-1 and was able to describe his surroundings to the dispatcher and one of the fire captains, who knew right away where the vehicle became stuck.

They were also able to confirm his destination through his phone.

The vehicle was winched out of the creek bed, uphill, and up to the pavement where the man was able to continue his journey home for the holidays.

The department has had a record 256 calls this year.
