Local communities to receive Safety Fund Grants

Several local communities are recipients of the latest round of Provincial Traffic Safety Fund grants.

The provincial government has announced that 80 projects were approved for 78 communities for a grand total of just over $2 million.

The Town of Arborfield will receive $2,855 for engine brake signs along Highway 23, and $7,950 for speed awareness signs. The Village of Beatty is in line to receive $12,106 for a speed awareness project, while the RM of Birch Hills will get $4,906 for a speed awareness and pedestrian safety project for the Hamlet of Brancepeth. A speed awareness project for Wakaw Lake will net the RM of Hoodoo $2,385.

The City of Humboldt will receive $88,275 for Highway 5 trail paving from 17th Street to Peck Road. The City of Melfort has been awarded $79,471 for an accessible pedestrian signal project on Main Street. The Town of Kelvington will receive $8,418 to go toward replacement of two radar speed display signs on Highway 38, adjacent to Kelvington School.

A Spruce Road safety initiative will see the Resort Village of Tobin Lake receive $8,516, and the Town of Wynyard will get $26,046 to go toward a speed awareness project.

“The Government of Saskatchewan and SGI remain dedicated to making our roads safer for everyone,” Minister Responsible for SGI Jeremy Harrison said in the provincial government news release. “Through $2 million in provincial grants, 78 municipalities and First Nations across Saskatchewan will be able to implement important traffic safety improvements in their communities.”

Provincial Traffic Safety Fund grants are awarded to communities twice a year, using proceeds from photo speed enforcement.
