Mustangs on last breath after Game 3 loss

The Melfort Mustangs are one loss away from their season being over.

Down 2-0 in their first-round series against the Battlefords North Stars, prior to Tuesday night, Melfort looked to turn the tide back on their home ice, but things didn’t go according to plan.

Despite the Mustangs scoring the first two goals of the game, giving themselves their first lead in the series, it was all North Battleford after that, as they proceeded to score six of the next seven goals to put the Blue and Green on the brink of elimination with the 6-3 win.

The Stangs will now have to rally off four straight victories to keep their season alive, beginning Wednesday night at the Northern Lights Palace.

Melfort once again led the shots by a sizeable margin, 40-24 on the night and 125-78 overall, but their power play continued to struggle, going 1 for 10 in Game 3 and 2-22 overall.

Still the two-time defending champions, the Mustangs haven’t had this big a hole since 2023, against these same Stars.
