Kinistino Sports Complex now known as CLAAS Centre

The Kinistino Sports Complex will now be called the CLAAS Centre.

CLAAS, an agricultural machinery manufacturer based in Harsewinkel, Germany, has connections to the area and is one of the main suppliers for Ag Authority. It was announced on Monday that the facility will bear their name thanks to a five-year $75,000 investment.

“Being from the area, I knew how valuable this place is to the community and the locals nearby. They support CLAAS, and we want to support them back, so we felt this was the right thing to do,” explained CLAAS Vice President of North America, Torey Hadland.

“Obviously, the brand recognition helps us as well, because we’re fairly new to this area. Ag Authority has been a dealer for us, starting in 2014, but before that, we never really had a presence. We’re just hoping to get more exposure, especially with the surrounding communities that come to play hockey here, and I think this certifies that we’re committed to supporting local people.”

While the name on the side of the building is now CLAAS Centre, it also helps Ag Authority, which views their relationship as symbiotic.

“To have that relationship with them, they’ve always been a fantastic manufacturer to deal with, and they just do business the right way. To be able to have that community involvement and support locally is just huge… I want people to think of them and us in the same sentence and thoughts, so I’m just thrilled that we were able to put their name on the community sports complex,” added Ag Authority Greg Shabaga.

“For us, when we’re looking at how we support locally and how to best be in the community, we think it’s critical to have this kind of infrastructure. It supports the younger generations that are coming up and makes sure these facilities will continue to be here. We have to support local initiatives, especially as costs rise, because being a part of helping others is our mission.”

With the partnership, the rink in Kinistino was able to purchase a new ice plant, which prevented it from having to shorten the season.

“We’re standing here next to the old ice plant, and honestly, at any given time, that ice plant could have stopped working, and that would have ended our season to the point where we wouldn’t have been able to repair it. In addition to the ice plant, one of the upgrades that we’ve done is the washrooms for our ball diamonds. This turns our facility into a full-season facility,” said rink board volunteer, Kris Babbings.

“We were grateful that they were willing to come on board for five years because it provides us cost certainty in terms of being able to understand what that’s going to look like moving forward. The work with Ag Authority is very well known and important to the area as well, so having them come on for five years, as well as other sponsors, it’s just huge for us.”

The rink board was also able to upgrade the referee and ice resurfacer rooms, and will continue to search for other sponsors.
