Strong crowds for Melfort Show and Shine

Jun 22, 2026 | 5:04 PM

A traditional Father’s Day weekend event was a hit in Melfort on Friday.

The North East Motorsports Association hosted their first Show and Shine, an event that’s synonymous with the third weekend in June.

President Michael Gerski told northeastNOW the show was a success.

“Everybody is very happy about how the show turned out,” Gerski said. “Seems like the service clubs had a very good turnout for profits for their clubs.”

The North East SPCA, the Filipino Club, the Historic Post Office Advisory Group, the Melfort Legion, and other groups were selling food and other items during the event.

A wide variety of classic and newer vehicles were part of this year’s show, with registrations from Texas, BC, Alberta, and elsewhere.

Gerski said the Melfort Show and Shine is an iconic event in northeast Saskatchewan with a strong turnout each year. Crowds were significant Friday night with residents and visitors on hand to catch a glimpse of some top-of-the-line automobiles. Gerski said 112 vehicles registered at the event, and they will try to expand and improve for next year.

Thankfully for the car show, the weather held off for the most part. Gerski said they had a slight sprinkle of rain in the afternoon when some vehicles were setting up, and there were a couple of owners who chose not to drive to Melfort from some areas that were experiencing rain earlier that day. However, the skies cleared as the day went on.

“We could not complain with the day we had,” said Gerski.

The North East Motorsports Association has a few more events to plan before looking into the next Show and Shine, according to Gerski. He thanked the volunteers from both the association and other service groups, sponsors, participants, and patrons for making the event a success.

“Without the sponsors and the help from the community, events like that just cannot happen.”
