Muskoday celebrates re-naming of bridge
A nearly 60-year-old bridge that is used by thousands of people everyday and lies on Muskoday First Nation has been re-named in honour of a man who laid the foundation for the community.
A ceremony was held on Tuesday to officially recognize the Chief John Smith bridge – the community’s hereditary chief.
“I always said that bridge is a physical metaphor as it bridges two cultures together,” Chief Ron Bear stated.
In the process to re-name the bridge, the Ministry of Highways worked closely with Muskoday First Nation and the Office of the Treaty Commissioner throughout the renaming process. Bear acknowledged the partnership.
