Panhandler brings in over $105k for Nipawin Region Health Foundation

The 2026 Panhandler Charity Golf Classic fundraiser for the Nipawin Region Health Foundation (NRHF) was a massive hit.

The tournament held at the Nipawin Evergreen Golf Course brought in valuable money to help advance health care in the Nipawin area.

Executive Director Danielle Armstrong told northeastNOW the foundation’s largest fundraiser is in its 29th year, and this year’s event raised over $105,000.

“This year we chose to raise funds for ear, nose, and throat surgical equipment upgrades, to equip our specialists with new, up-to-date equipment and new tools that they can use to make surgeries less invasive and reduce healing time,” Armstrong said.

It also means families can stay closer to home when they require surgery. In addition, Armstrong said the upgraded equipment helps attract and retain doctors.

“If a surgeon is used to a certain tool – to have those tools available to them, to [allow them to] enjoy their time while they’re in our facilities.”

The foundation has been raising money for equipment upgrades all year, and there have been other donations and fundraisers that are going towards the improvements. Lake Country Co-op’s Fuel Good Day Sept. 15 will also support the NRHF’s fundraising efforts.

“All of those funds will go toward that $200,000 goal,” explained Armstrong.

The equipment has all been ordered, and Armstrong said they hope to replenish the funds so they can continue to fundraise for more.

One of the major donors was the Gladys Smith Foundation, which donated $30,000 to this year’s Panhandler, after a $20,000 donation to last year’s event. The NRHF thanked the Gladys Smith Foundation, golfers, sponsors, donors, volunteers, pledge gatherers, auction bidders, businesses, and community supporters that came together to help make the Panhandler a success.
