Oakes told northeastNOW that the organization is excited about returnees coming back in tip-top form and will look to fill the rest of the spots with high-quality individuals.

“I don’t think it’s any secret our coaching staff likes guys that compete hard and bring some skill and play an aggressive style of game. If players are willing to do that, I think there’s an opportunity for them, and maybe they just need some seasoning for another year or two. We’ll see how it goes, but the coaching staff definitely likes to see that compete, and that’s our expectation going into the weekend,” he added.

“I don’t think there’s any secret that we lacked some goal scoring last year, and if we can find a guy or two that has that scoring ability and can put the puck in the net, I definitely think they’re going to have an upper hand on earning a spot, so we’ll see how it plays out.”

In total, there will be four teams comprised at this weekend’s camp. There will be two games played Friday evening beginning at 5 p.m., four games played on Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m., and two games played on Sunday beginning at 9 a.m. Camp will then conclude with the intrasquad game on Sunday, starting at 4 p.m.

“It’s hard to believe camp’s already here and hockey season’s upon us, but we’re looking forward to getting started. We’re happy with the group we’ve assembled and put together, and I think we’ve got some good character and some good skill, so just looking forward to how we can piece it all together and get things back on track early in the season and carry that on to the end of the spring,” concluded Oakes.

“We’ll just let everybody go at their own pace; some guys adjust quick, some guys a little slower, but we’re willing to be patient and give guys an opportunity to contribute on a daily basis and help us move forward as an organization.”
