Mustangs visit North Stars for playoff rematch

Oct 9, 2026 | 3:16 PM

For the first time since the first round of last year’s playoffs, the Melfort Mustangs will take on the Battlefords North Stars.

Melfort is on the road this weekend to play North Battleford tonight (Friday) before heading to Kindersley on Saturday to face the Klippers.

“We’re all really excited for this weekend. We don’t get many of these road trips where we’re going overnight, so everyone’s gonna be ready to go. We’ll do lots of bonding, and we’re gonna be ready to play this weekend,” explained Mustangs’ captain, Tristin Ziola.

“This particular matchup with the Stars was definitely one we’ve had circled on the calendar; we want to beat them bad because last year did not sit well with us, so we’re ready to get back at them.”

The Stangs are coming off a Wednesday loss at home at the hands of the Weyburn Red Wings, while Battleford has dropped their last two.

“I love every guy on this team, and we’re just going to keep rolling here. Wednesday night didn’t quite work for us, but we had our chances. We just gotta pick it up in the D zone a little bit, and I think we’ll be fine,” Ziola added.

“We’re just focused on ourselves here this weekend, and putting some pucks in the net. We know they’re going to be a fast team, but we’re gonna be ready for that.”

Puck drop tonight is set for 7:30 p.m., with the pregame show going at 7:15 p.m. on 105CJVR and CJVR.com
