And So They Meet Again

Mustangs welcome Bombers, hope for repeat result

Oct 20, 2026 | 1:26 PM

The Melfort Mustangs will see a familiar opponent Tuesday night, as they are set to play host to the Flin Flon Bombers.

Melfort just saw Flin Flon this past Saturday, when they travelled to the Whitney Forum and produced a dominant 6-1 win.

Now, the hope is that they can produce a similar effort and result, this time in front of their own fans.

So far, the Mustangs have actually struggled a bit at home, as three of their four losses this season have come at the Northern Lights Palace.

In their defence, however, all five of their home games to this point have come against teams with above .500 records.

Tonight’s tilt against the Bombers will mean the Stangs will have seen all the other six current winning organizations, just 12 matches into the year.

The Blue and Green are coming off a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde performance Saturday, in what was a loss to the visiting Humboldt Broncos.

After Melfort gave up the first goal of the night, they proceeded to respond with four unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead nearly exactly halfway through the contest.

Unfortunately, that ended up being all the offence the Mustangs could muster before the defence faltered a bit and allowed five straight (one of which was an empty-netter) to fall 6-4.

Overall, the Stangs are still in a good position through 11 contests of the campaign, as they sit with a 7-4 record, having won six of their last eight.

The Blue and Green will have to be careful this evening, though, as they face a strong Bombers squad in their own right, who are 7-3 on the year and are likely looking for revenge after what happened last weekend.

Flin Flon already responded a little bit when they beat the visiting Yorkton Terriers on Saturday by a score of 4-2.

A much tighter meeting is expected for Tuesday, as the two division rivals battle for the second of eight times this season.

The Mustangs are no stranger to close games this year, as, excluding empty-net goals, eight of their 11 games on the season have been one-goal contests, with all eight of those battle-to-the-end matches coming in the club’s last nine.

Tonight’s clash is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. puck drop from the Palace in Melfort, with the pregame show set for 7:15 p.m. on 105CJVR and CJVR.com.
