Melfort’s latest Coffee with Council busy with ideas, questions

Oct 27, 2026 | 3:24 PM

The latest Coffee with Council in Melfort brought another enthusiastic crowd to the Kerry Vickar Centre.

Councillor Tara Muntain told northeastNOW that she was pleased with the turnout for last week’s event.

“I think we had about 25 to 30 people come and go throughout the night,” Muntain said.

The event is designed to have residents raise concerns with council and ask questions regarding civic issues and politics in a relaxed setting, outside of the formal setting of council chambers at City Hall. Many people choose to wander from table to table to join discussions on a variety of topics.

Muntain said there were several people at the event that had not attended in the past, and that was encouraging. Equally so were the residents that have been to several Coffee with Council meet ups in the past.

“They know that they can talk to us, and that’s what we’re there for,” said Muntain. “We’re there to make sure that our citizens are in-the-know.”

Topics varied throughout the night, and Muntain said council was able to answer some of the questions immediately, while others required more research.

“Or we were able to direct them to the place that they can find out the information that they want.”

Muntain said Coffee with Council is also an opportunity for residents to speak to council in one location without having to track them down through emails or phone calls.

“It’s face-to-face, a direct conversation with the councillors and the mayor that you elected into office,” Muntain explained.

The get-togethers are usually held each quarter, and this one was delayed slightly due to the later harvest. The next Coffee with Council should come up early in the new year, and Muntain said that details will be released closer to that date on their social media pages.
