Live auction and luncheon to raise money for Historic Post Office rehab

Nov 4, 2026 | 11:25 AM

Planning continues for the repair and rehabilitation of the Historic Post Office in Melfort.

A live auction and luncheon will take place Saturday, Nov. 14 to help raise money for the restoration of the over century-old building.

Elaine Tremblay of the Historic Post Office Advisory Group (HPOAG) told northeastNOW that a wide array of items will be up for bid at the auction.

“There will be things for farmers, their wives, kids; a big variety of different items for auction,” Tremblay said.

The event will also feature a chili luncheon and dessert at 11 a.m.

Items for auction can be dropped off on the 13th, and people can drop off their baked goods on the morning of the 14th.

Tremblay said they are raising money in part to purchase new front doors for the Historic Post Office. The current doors allow cold air to come into the building, and the group wants to ensure they find the right doors to prevent this from happening. It’s expected that the new doors, once chosen, will be installed in the spring.

The fundraiser will also raise money for new flooring on the main floor. Tremblay said the current flooring is a mishmash of different woods and cannot be refinished. The floor is also unlevel, and Tremblay said they will likely have to laser-level the floor and install a sub-floor before the vinyl plank is installed.

The HPOAG recently benefited from a generous donation by Prairie North Co-op, and Tremblay said they are excited that momentum is growing for the project.

“Hopefully it will get closer to where we can have [the main floor] rented out more, and have more things going on there,” said Tremblay.

The next major event at the Historic Post Office following the auction and luncheon will be the Christmas Castle. Tremblay said they will begin decorating for that annual event Nov. 16, and that will last until Dec. 1. The Christmas Castle lasts throughout the month of December.
