The Nipawin Hawks have added to their forward group while moving a 20-year-old defenseman to Melville.

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) club announced Thursday that Mason Eggen has been traded to Melville for Leo Jewitt. Nipawin General Manager Tad Kozun appreciated the work Eggen put in over almost a year with the Hawks.

“Mason came in last year at the trade deadline and did a good job for us when we were banged up last year,” Kozun said. “When you get a player like Leo you have to give up something, we are up against it at 20-year-olds, so this frees a spot as well with that.”

Eggen suited up for 31 games in Nipawin producing eight assists.

As for Jewitt, the Hawks get a three year forward and a former U18 AAA captain with the Yorkton Maulers. Kozun said the 19-year-old Indian Head, Sask. product will blend in nicely with the Hawks talented forward group.

“Jewitt is a really good player and adds depth. We think he can really help us this year with his grit, tenacity, and in your face type play,” Kozun said.

Jewitt has played 60 games over three seasons compiling 12 goals and eight helpers along with 140 penalty minutes.

The Hawks host Estevan Friday at the Centennial Arena then travel to Melville to mee the Jewitt’s former club on Saturday.
