Mustangs complete player swap with Broncos

Nov 5, 2026 | 3:58 PM

The Melfort Mustangs have made a trade with the Humboldt Broncos. The two SJHL clubs have swapped a pair of 20-year-olds.

Coming to Melfort is 2006-born defenceman Kai Holowachuk. The native of Calgary, Alta. has 66 games of SJHL experience under his belt, all coming in the last two seasons.

So far this year, Holowachuk has three goals and six assists (nine points) over 15 games played. During the 2025/26 campaign, he had three goals and 14 assists (17 points) in 51 contests.

The six-foot-two, 181-pound blueliner also had experience in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL), having registered 25 points (1G, 24A) in 50 matches during the 2024/25 season as a member of the Beaver Valley NiteHawks.

In exchange, Carsyn Dyck will head to Humboldt. The 2006-born forward has spent the majority of his junior career in the Western Hockey League (WHL), although he isn’t unfamiliar with the SJHL.

Dyck played parts of two seasons with the Estevan Bruins, suiting up a combined 51 times over the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons. The five-foot-ten, 172-pound centreman produced 17 points (6G, 11A) over that time.

The Warman, Sask., native primarily saw games with the WHL’s Portland Winterhawks (2022-2026), having accumulated 126 matches with them, in which he registered 39 points (14G, 25A).

The only hockey Dyck has played this year is with the Prince Albert Raiders. In three games, he had a single goal.

The 20-year-old had yet to dress for the Mustangs.
