The City of Humboldt’s Summer Sizzler gets kicked off on Thursday.

West Coast Amusement Midways is setting up for the fair weekend that typically sees around 6,000 people go through the grounds at the Humboldt Uniplex.

Programs and Special Events Manager, Jocelyn Doetzel, said passes for the fair are still up for grabs.

“Weekend passes are available until Wednesday at 9:30 p.m., other than that it will be day passes starting Thursday when the midway opens until the end of the weekend,” Doetzel said.

The full weekend of events includes a cabaret on Friday featuring music by Longshot. The cabaret was run by the Humboldt JCI’s in previous years but since that group no longer exists, the Leisure Services department took it over.

“Proceeds from the cabaret will be going to Arts Humboldt and the Humboldt and area Refugee Coalition this year,” Doetzel said.

The Hammerheads swim meet kicks off the Saturday events at 8:30 a.m., with the Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce parade and pancake breakfast to follow. The strong-person competition and comic con begin at 12 p.m. that day as well.

A very special addition to the weekend this year is regular season Junior B Lacrosse game will be happening at the Elgar Petersen Arena (EPA). The Saskatchewan SWAT and the Barracuda Lacrosse Club will face each other at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

Sunday’s events include the flying clubs pancake breakfast, car show, and laser tag.

The city is not anticipating any street closures as set up for the midway is underway at the grounds surrounding the Uniplex and EPA.

“Everything is open aside from a few parking restrictions but both entrances from 17th Street and Fifth Avenue are open,” Doetzel said.
