Nipawin Dairy Queen reaches milestone for Miracle Treat Day fundraising

Aug 9, 2019 | 2:21 PM

It was Miracle Treat Day at Dairy Queen’s across Canada on Thursday, Aug. 9, and one local location hit a milestone.

The Nipawin Dairy Queen hit $100,000 fundraised over 15 years of fundraising. After yesterday’s final number, their total over the decade and a half of fundraising is just under $110,000. From Thursday alone, the location sold 1,322 blizzards, and with donation boxes, selling balloons, and other efforts, the store raised $8,132 to go towards the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital in Saskatoon. Owner John Ukrainetz called it a great day.

“It’s amazing how the community gets behind something like this,” he said.

Ukrainetz said they get a great response from not only individuals, but the business community as well with pre-orders. He said during Miracle Treat Day, the drive through was busy, and the restaurant inside was packed as well.

“It goes to a good cause,” Ukrainetz told northeastNOW. “What better cause can you have than hopefully a sick child that needs some help is going to get some help.”

Previously, the money raised from Miracle Treat Day would go to the Children’s Hospital Foundation, but now with the hospital in Saskatoon coming to fruition, Ukrainetz said this year was extra special.

“Beacuase of that, I think it makes it an extra special event this year,” he said. “Because we finally have the realization of our own children’s hospital in Saskatchewan.”

Elsewhere, Melfort’s location raised $9,775, and Tisdale raised around $5,500 through blizzard sales, a spin to win, a car show, and their donations.
