North East SPCA to fundraise before and after its shelter’s grand opening

Aug 15, 2019 | 5:00 PM

The North East SPCA is nearing one month until they open the Harry and Eve Vickar Shelter on Hamilton Ave.

Pat Rumberger, a North East SPCA board member, was at one of the SPCA’s recent fundraisers: Wright’s Greenhouse barbecue, pet photo booth, and trade show. While the SPCA has raised nearly $500,000 ahead of the shelter’s opening, the fundraising will be a continuous process once it’s operational.

“It’s a constant thing and we depend upon the support from the northeast,” Rumberger told northeastNOW. “Porcupine Plain, Hudson Bay, Choiceland, Kinistino, Naicam, St. Brieux, and all the communities and R.M.’s in between.

The Harry and Eve Vickar Shelter’s grand opening will take place on Friday, Sept. 27 with a ribbon cutting at 4:30 p.m., although Rumberger mentioned how she and the rest of the staff and board members will hold a soft opening prior to the ceremony.

Before the shelter’s grand opening, the North East SPCA will have a booth at the District 10 Barrel Racing Finals from Aug. 24 to 25 at the Melfort Exhibition grounds and host a garage sale on Saturday, Sept. 7 as their final major fundraisers.

Rumberger said the North East SPCA is still taking separate cash and item donations for those who are able to give.
