Humboldt Golf Club celebrates 75th anniversary

A long and storied history of the Humboldt Golf Club was celebrated on Wednesday, Aug 28.

The club held an event to celebrate 75 years in business and welcomed golfers from all walks of life to reminisce about the clubs rich history. However, according to long-time member, and current Board Member, Dave Hill, it hasn’t all been roses for the club.

“It wasn’t too long ago that we had an emergency meeting at the golf course,” he said. “Just about our finances and the future of the golf course.”

Hill said they have lots of people coming to play the course, not only from the Humboldt area, but all over Saskatchewan and Canada.

“We see a lot of the community here,” Hill said. “A lot of the people from the community come out. Some of them golf once or twice a year, some of them are here every day. It’s great to meet them all.”

Part of the reason behind getting more golfers to play Humboldt could be their expansion to 18 holes.

“We couldn’t just go with nine holes anymore, it was just getting too crowded,” Hill said. “So we made that move at the right time. We have a beautiful golf course, a beautiful 18 hole golf course.”

As part of the celebrations, there was a ceremonial tee-off. That was done by one of the club’s oldest members, and their youngest member. There were also some golf lessons held by Anna Young as dozens of kids were looking to improve their game.
