Road restrictions for Melfort Multi-K come into effect Saturday morning

Sep 20, 2019 | 11:54 AM

A number of road closures and restrictions will be in effect Saturday morning during the Melfort Multi-K.

The start/finish line will be set up between the Kerry Vickar Centre and Melfort and Unit Comprehensive Collegiate leading to the closure of the Assiniboia St. from MUCC south to Bemister Ave.

Hatton Avenue from Main Street east to MUCC will be closed starting at 6 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. during the Castle Building Centre one-kilometre event. The road will re-open once all participants have cleared the area.

Bemister Avenue will be closed from Assiniboia Street to Brunswick Street from 6 a.m. to noon.

‘No parking’ signs have been put in place in all residential areas along the course. Motorists are encouraged look for the signs and find alternate parking either on the other side of the street or a side street.

Street parking around the Kerry Vickar Centre will also be restricted. The parking lots will be open and can be accessed using Alberta and Brunswick, west of the KVC.

There is a full roster of participants for the first time in the events nine year history. Each category is sold out and a total of 575 people are registered.

Package pick-up begins on Friday at 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the KVC in the Affinity Room. Packages can also be picked up on the morning of the event from 7 to 8:30 a.m.

Opening ceremonies will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a warm-up. The 1 km kids fun run begins at 8:45 a.m., the 21.1 km gets started at 9 a.m. and then the 5 km and 10 km runs get underway at 9:15 a.m.

The medal ceremonies will take place once the top three have been determined for each event.
