Harry & Eve Vickar Shelter open house on Saturday

Oct 4, 2019 | 12:08 PM

The busy fall continues for the North East SPCA.

One week after celebrating the grand opening of the long-awaited Harry & Eve Vickar Shelter in Melfort, the organization is hosting an open house on Saturday.

Shelter tours will begin at 11 a.m., and will run until 2:30 p.m.

Cindy’s Independent Grocer is sponsoring the lunch, which will feature a barbecue hot dog and drink for $5.

North East SPCA Board Chair Pat Shiels told northeastNOW there will be several draws as well.

“All of the kids in the northeast elementary schools got a colouring contest to bring with them, and if they bring it with them they get entered into a draw,” said Shiels. “Also, if anybody brings anything from our wish list which will be found on Facebook, or a donation, they get entered into a draw as well, and that draw is sponsored by Penny’s Soup and Sandwich.”

Shiels said the organization is extremely excited that the shelter has come to fruition, though one thing is still missing.

“We don’t have animals yet,” Shiels chuckled.

“We had a delay in a few of the things that we need, but once we get them in place it will be all go ahead.”

The building, which is just over 5,000 sq. ft., will house stray animals from as far away as Hudson Bay.
