Trojans fall to Mintos in first northeast rivalry meeting of the year
The Tisdale Trojans have now lost seven straight hockey games after starting the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League (SMAAAHL) season 2-0.
The Trojans fell to the first-place Prince Albert Mintos on Sunday, Oct. 13 4-1 as the rivals met for the first time this year.
Tisdale got on the board first as Mackenzie Carson was in the right place at the right time after a Kylynn Olafson shot tipped around before beating Joel Favreau of the Mintos about halfway through the frame. The Trojans held the lead for a while and seemed to have the most pressure for the first period, but Prince Albert came back and got a favourable break from the hockey gods. The puck hopped over Drayton Hvidstons stick at the blue-line, and turned into a two-on-one for the Mintos that was finished off by Ty Bahm. That gave us a 1-1 tie after one period.
The Mintos came back hard in the second after their late first period tally and outshot Tisdale 11-4 in the second period. Gabe Klassen scored halfway through the frame, and Chase Bertholet scored a beautiful powerplay goal with about five minutes to play and all of a sudden, the Mintos had a 3-1 lead after two periods.
