The Chiropractic Association of Saskatchewan (CAS) is partnering with the Salvation Army again for the fourth annual Toasty Toes Sock Drive.

The goal is collect 15,000 pairs of socks in chiropractic offices across the province according to Dr. Kimberley Burgis of Melfort.

“In 2018, we were able to collect over 18,000 pairs for vulnerable people in Saskatchewan communities surpassing our goal,” Burgis said. “We also collected over $1,100 which was used to purchase other winter necessities.”

Over 50,000 pairs of socks were collected over the span of the first three years of the sock drive.

Donations of socks are to be distributed through the Salvation Army Christmas hamper campaign that is also currently underway.

“Socks are one of the most requested items by charitable organizations and yet one of the least donated,” Burgis said.

The call for donations has been underway around the province since around the middle of September but this Thursday, Nov. 22 is the deadline to drop off socks.

“The donations of new pairs of socks can be dropped off at Healthplex Chiropractic and Massage in Tisdale collecting and Dr. Schulte, Siwak, and Burgis in Melfort as well,” Burgis said.

Once the Christmas hampers are full, the leftover socks will then go to other needed areas such as shelters.

Cash donation jars are also set up at the clinics as well as the sock collection bins.

“We will go with that cash and purchase socks or donate the cash so they (Salvation Army) can purchase other items needed for winter,” Burgis said.

All kinds and sizes of socks are needed in pairs or packages.
